Most users fall into two categories: those users that need to create a new website, and those users that need to migrate an existing website from their previous hosting company. Regardless of which category you fit into, you'll want to review our New Customer Website Getting Started Guide.

Email

All of our hosting accounts include email addresses. Whether you need sales@example.com or Bob@example.com, you'll find that setting up email addresses is quite easy. Regardless of whether you're creating these email accounts for the first time or they currently exist on your previous host, you should start with our Email Getting Started Guide.

Getting to Know Our System

Many moons ago, the only control panel you had access to was cPanel. cPanel is your website's control panel. This is where you can do things such as edit your files or create email addresses. What cPanel does not allow you to do however is anything billing related, such as register new domain names or upgrade your hosting account. In the past it's been required for users to call in for these types of things, however we are excited to announce that we now have the Account Management Panel (AMP) available. In a nutshell, you can think of it as cPanel helps you manage your website and AMP helps you manage billing related items on your account.

Hello,

I just signed up with Inmotion this morning, when I called with technical questions with pressing 2 the answer was " Sorry you have troubles. Good By!" What kind of greeting is that? My only hope is maybe because it is Sunday. 

Now I am waiting to speak with someone, pressed 1 it has been 19 minutes no one is answering, I feel I made a huge mistake!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problem with the password. We do have a tutorial for recovering the Administrator password. You will need to have access to the cPanel or database in order to make the change. You can also contact our live technical support department for immediate aid, but you will need to be able verify the account. We cannot post password information on the Support Center as posts are public domain.

Thank you for your comment. The folder you are looking at (http://cdn.inmotionhosting.com/img/), only contains public images, and is not a security risk.

There is no need for them to be secured, and in fact they are necessary for the website to display correctly.

You can easily password protect any folders in cPanel, here is the guide.

I am standing by for a fix on our VPS, which is not working at all since we purchased the package. Unfortunately we do not have your email account on file, so I can't take a look and see what type of admin you might be referring to. When you encounter a 404 error not found page, this means that the URL you requested doesn't physically exist on the server, or your CMS isn't expecting it via some Rewrite rules in your .htaccess file.

Did you recently change your WordPress URL? It could be possible that your database is storing the incorrect path to your site and that's why the page can't be found. You can typically look in the wp_options table of your WordPress database and look for the siteurl or home rows to edit the correct URL into.

Please let us know what software you're using, and what if anything might have changed right before you started running into these issues.

I am a new user. I am also very new to website development. I know how to write some html code. I have written an html file, and I have registered two domain names with you guys, but I don't know how to import my files into your system such that when I look at my domain name, it actually shows the page i wrote. You guys need to start at the beginning of how to use your system. The tutorials I have watched give very little practical user advice. They leave huge steps out. The getting started guide didn't tell me anything about how to use my domain, whether i want to use your built in tools or note.

It is possible the email got stopped by an email filter, or flagged as spam (you may have to check your spam box).

Thank you for your question. We can install nginx on any VPS or Dedicated hosting account. There may be a one-time fee for this installation, but they will let you know at the time of your request.

We do not run nginx on our Business Hosting plans. This is because it could affect the performance of existing websites on the server. Essentially the .htaccess file for many websites would have to be modified, to allow them to continue working with nginx.

Judging by your previous questions (about Rails, nginx) , you are going to be much better suited for a VPS, or Dedicated plan.

Took over a site I did not develop and I'm really only making updates to it. I'm trying to figure out where the login page is saved? Right now when selecting "Log In" it is pointing to http://maplehillgolfclub.net/Links

It prompts for user name and password which is fine, but when done logging in as a user it goes to that Links page. When I log in as admin and go to the Links Page I see nothing in the code that shows a login screen? So now that you figured out I'm totally clueless. I'm getting rid of the Links page and I want the "Sign In" Link to just point to http://maplehillgolfclub.net instead of the Links page that has nothing.

1) I was hoping to adjust the code to point to the main site but cannot find it. Not sure what I want to do but I cannot even find it for starters

Viewing the source of the site in a browser shows that the site is WordPress. In that case, there are no saved pages. WordPress creates pages on demand by using database information. WordPress also has features added via plugins and widgets. Within the admin dashboard, you can pull up the content by viewing the Posts or Pages sections.

Sometimes our Confirmations team is not able to get through for one reason or another. Sometimes the connection to other countries or areas is not made or intermittent. You can always contact our Live Confirmations department by chat as well, or if you are able to make the call to them, that may work also. I will notify them as well so they can try to reach out to you by phone so that it does not cost you. If they do not reach out by phone within 30 minutes it is because they are unable to and you may need to consider the chat or email option.

We were just notified that our account was moved to a new server last week. As of two days ago we can no longer get email from this server on any of our PC's or cell phones. There used many years ago online chat support, what happened to it? Any suggestions on the email issue.

If your server got changed, then you simply need to update your email configuration on your PCs or cell phones. They're probably configured using the old server information. While some data may need to be created, WordPress does have a Joomla to WordPress plugin to help with moving a site over from Joomla. I have nto worked with this plugin personally and cannot give any endorsement, but it is an option that I found using a Google search.

My email is getting hundreds and hundreds of undeliverable emails sent to it and I haven't sent anything with that volume.  There is clearly something terribly wrong and needs to be fixed.  Will somebody PLEASE check into this and find out what the problem is and fix it.  My husband just died and I don't have the time or patience for this at the moment.  Thank you!!

Our shared servers have php 5.5 by default but you can run anything from 5.2 to PHP 7 on them, you can control that. The MySQL on our shared servers are is currently at 5.6. The current Moodle version available for install is 2.0.10.

I'm considering changing webhosts and looking at InMotion. I want to convert our existing website to Joomla - but require ability to index text of PDFs. One Joomla extension for such indexing (JiFile) requires support for XPDF. Another possible extension (PDF Indexer) requires support for popen in PHP. My current host supports these only in VPS - not in shared hosting. What's your policy? We are a small non-profit and really don't need the capacity of VPS.

Thanks for considering us for a possible host due to your PDF indexing requirement. I checked on a typical shared server and neither of those extensions are available, unfortunately. The problem with using a indexing tool like this is that it will severely affect server resources (especially when used with multiple websites at the same time). This would in turn affect server performance. You may want to consider offloading indexing services like that to 3rd party cloud servers like those provided with Amazon. At this time, we do not provide any way for you to use those services on a shared server. Like the others, you could load it on a VPS or dedicated server account type - just not with the shared servers. Apologies that we can't provide a direct solution for your requirements. I am planing to transfer my Reseller hosting smoothly and quick as I don't want downtime and emails been lost. I used my domain name with ns1 & ns2 plus the IP address to create the custom DNS. Is this sufficient to use for reseller accounts?

Yes, if you have the necessary DNS management privileges they will be sufficient for reseller custom nameservers.

Hello.  My website has propogated from my previous host to your hosting service this afternoon and I've transferred all files and uploaded the site to your servers but the background for my site isn't showing up.  It should be a dark blue starry pattern but all I get is a white background (not the page background but the browser background).  Did I miss something?

Can you please provide your website url so we may investigate a bit further as you may have missed some files during the transfer. Is this a CMS type website such as WordPress or Joomla or is this something custom coded?

I have a new template/plugin for wordpress. They are requiring the following settings from the servers php settings. I tried to change the values in .htaccess and got a server error. Here are the settings I need changed...php_value max_execution_time 180
php_value memory_limit 128M
php_value post_max_size 32M
php_value upload_max_filesize 32M
php_value max_input_vars 5000

Hello Buzz,

You can edit your PHP.INI file and then edit those values. Check out this article to see how you can edit it. If you don't have a PHP.INI file, you can login to cPanel, click on PHP CONFIGURATION and click UPDATE. This will add a PHP.INI file into your PUBLIC_HTML folder.

I have an existing domain and site that I will be migrating.  I just signed up and recieved my "temp" URLs.   These temp URLs just redirect me to my original site and not the new servers instance at inmotion.

Hello Tom,

Thank you for contacting us. This is happening because your domain is still pointed to yahoo. Pointing to InMotion Nameservers will cause your domain to resolve to your server with us within 24 hours.

You can test your site on ouir servers (immediately) with a Host File Modification, if necessary.

Support and Sales are in the same area, just with different extensions. Support can be somewhat busy at times depending on when you try to contact them, but all contacts are answered in the order they are received. With your login issue, what are you specifically trying to log into?
