Backup Manager Product Guide

Welcome to Backup Manager, the automatic backup add-on for InMotion Hosting cPanel hosting accounts. It backs up your files, databases, and email to redundant off-server storage on a schedule you control, and lets you restore a full account, a single file, or one database in a few clicks. Every subscription includes 10 GB of backup storage, with more available in the AMP Marketplace.

This guide takes you from purchase to a tested restore: buying and enabling Backup Manager, tuning what gets backed up, proving you can restore, and keeping your storage ahead of your account’s growth.

The Backup Manager Journey

Five phases, in the order you’ll actually do them. Start at phase 1 if you haven’t purchased yet, or jump in anywhere if you already know where you are.

1

Understand & Purchase

~10 min

Backing up your site is your responsibility, and one backup is never enough: you want an automatic, off-server copy that survives anything that happens to your account. Purchase Backup Manager in the AMP Marketplace, or add it to an account you already have.

2

Configure Your Backups

~15 min

Turn backups on in cPanel and choose exactly which files, databases, and mailboxes get backed up. Your subscription includes 10 GB of backup storage, and scheduled backups stop running if your account outgrows it, so trim what you back up to what you’d actually need to recover.

3

Verify & Test a Restore

do this early

A backup you’ve never restored is a hope, not a plan. Once your first backup completes, open it, browse what’s inside, and practice a restore to an alternate folder so you know the recovery drill before an emergency, without touching your live site.

4

Watch Your Storage

ongoing

Sites grow, and the most common Backup Manager surprise is quietly exceeding your storage: backups pause until you free up or add space. Act on storage alerts when they arrive, and add space in 10 GB blocks from the AMP Marketplace before you need it.

5

Keep a Second Copy

good practice

Backup Manager is your automatic safety net; pair it with an occasional manual backup you download and keep somewhere else. Before major changes such as a redesign or a PHP upgrade, take a manual copy too.
