Play Framework on VPS

Hi,

I have a VPS account with IM with a pretty typical setup, running PHP-MySQL applications. Is it possible for me to also install Play! Framework under my current setup? I'd be primarily working in Scala, and I'm quite sure this involves installing a non-standard server (Tomcat, Glassfish, etc.) and/or the Java VM. I'm a PHP guy and don't have a lot of background on these technologies just yet, but I'd like to get more information before I get too far into a project. For the meantime, there are free hosting options, but I'd like to stay with InMotion if my app ever gets to a point where I need to expand it. Thanks.

Hello MattInWhittier,

Thanks for the question about Play Framework on VPS! It appears that it can be done, but it would require that you have root access and there will probably a fee involved in installing some of the JDK requirements (typically $40). Additionally, it appears that you have multiple accounts here, but I'm not sure which one you're actually using for this. We would probably recommend that you have more than a VPS 1000 account because of the resource requirements of Java. However, you can request that it be scaled up if required. It just depends on your use and what you are developing with Play! You will need to submit a support ticket using the AMP interface in order to request the installation of the OpenJDK requirement , Tomcat, and also for access to Root. Make sure that you provide verification of the account (either the last 4 digits of the credit card on the account or the AMP password) with your request.

I hope this helps to clarify the issue. If you still have any further questions, please let us know.

Regards,

Arnel C.
