How do I ensure that my site remains "invisible" until I'm ready to go live?
I have a contractor who is loading my site template. However, I do not want visitors to be able to see my site until I enter the relevant information and "go live." How do I ensure that, even though my template is up, that no one can see it?
When I think of an invisible website, I think of a website that cannot be found in search engines and a website that cannot be seen when someone types in the URL.
It sounds like you simply do not want anyone to be able to see your website until it is ready. This is actually quite easy to do. What I recommend is setting up password protection within cPanel. This will allow you to setup a username and password, and those that don't know those credentials cannot see your website. This will allow you and your developer to see your website, but no one else (unless you give them the username and password).
For more help with this, please see our article on how to password protect a directory.
If you're going to be doing this for your main domain name, you will be password protecting the public_html directory.
I hope this points you in the right direction! Feel free to post any follow up questions in the comments at the bottom of the page, we're more than happy to assist further.
