Hi everyone,

Need your help pls (am not a web developer). I create an ftp acc for a web guy that needed to do some work on our website. we no longer work with that person and am wondering how to remove his access. Should I just delete the acc? change the password? the path to fpt acc is /home/sightl.../public_html.

Thanks for your help

No problem Jeef.  Removing an FTP user will not break the site. When an FTP user is created in cPanel it creates a separate folder for that user.  You have the option of keeping the folder or deleting it.  The folder is simply the location where files uploaded to that user would be saved.  Deleting the user will also prevent access to that folder.  I hope that helps to clarify the issue!

Thanks a lot Arnel. This is very helful, I wanted to confirm before deleting the account because I read somewhere on the forum doing that could break the site? the web guy didnt have access to cpanel, only gave him the credentials to a specific ftp account I created.

Hello Jeef,

Thanks for the question in regards to removing the FTP access for your former web guy.  Yes, you can simply go into cPanel and remove the FTP account.  This will mean that those credentials can't be used to access your site.  If the user was using your cPanel user to access your account, then we would recommend you update your cPanel password. If you want to be certain that you have secured your site from previous users then you should rotate the password for your cPanel.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest regards,

Arnel C.
