How do I move Joomla from a subfolder to my root folder?

I have created a new website using joomla 1.7 and have it online with the extension /joomla. I now want to remove the /joomla so that the joomla site replaces my old website. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks

Hi davidkanegsberg, Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to help you today. It's actually easier than you think to move your Joomla website from a subfolder to your web root. Basically, the first thing you'll need to do is copy all the files from the /joomla folder to your public_html folder (or if this is an add-on domain to the root folder for that domain). This can be accomplished by using File Manager in cPanel or a FTP program such as FileZilla. Next, now that you have copied or moved all the files over from the /joomla directory to your root folder, you'll need to make a few changes to the configuration.php file. Edit the configuration file using File Manager (right click on the file and select "code edit") and remove the reference to the /joomla sub folder from the $log_path and the $tmp_path code. Once you've made those changes to the configuration.php file you should be able to access your website without going to the /joomla folder. I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
