I am having greater and greater difficulty sending some emails, especially to Gmail accounts.

First, be sure that you have both SPF Records and DMARC records properly configured. If you continue having trouble sending out to Gmail, you may want to look int Google's Postmaster Tools, which are a series of tools and analytics offered by Gmails to help you better meet their sending criteria.
