Hello, I need to create a ".tar.bz2" file for a backup of one directory.

I tried to do it via cPanel -> File Manager but the task never ends. So I tried to create a "cron job" but I just got an error telling me that the command can not be completed.

What I need is to generate this file: /public_html/estrategiasguate.com/edi_mail.tar.bz2 from this direcroty: /mail/_estrategiasguate.com

Can you tell me how can I do it or can you help me to create this backup ?

Thanks a lot !

Total data lost unrecoverable due to failed cPanel Backup
Ticket 100-1877167
Yesterday I rec'd reports of my website down (8,000 visitors/day in hottest period of annual conference registration). It said what no IT person ever wants to hear:

"We sincerely apologize, but all data stored in the database tables listed below was lost and cannot be restored from our backups" (virtually all the tables were listed).

The ticket asked us to upload a local backup, but we used the same backup utility as InMotion -- the one on the cPanel frequently and regularly. It gave no indication of completing unsuccessfully so we had no reason to check them table-by-table. Our media company now quotes $5,000 plus a week's downtime to rebuild our site from the original which is years old.

So.... somewhere somehow there must be a backup to give us our data back, even if it is an old version, at least we don't have to rebuild the entire WordPress site from scratch.

I do not really understand why my ticket didn't get more attention. It was just robotic responses that were unhelpful and lacked concern. Same with phone calls. I requested escalation to top management which was refused. I could never get back to the support reps that were helping me and it seemed you have so many customers that you really didn't care at all about such a major blowup on your end.

Can you help?
Server times out when uploading backups in cpanel
My package is R-2000. I am not able to restore my cpanel backups for anything larger than 2G. I have already explored the online troubleshooting but none of that helped. I was to to upload the gunzip files into my /home/ directory and then let them know and they will restore them for me. But how do I upload them if the server keeps timing out? There is no way I'm FTPing files that large.

My server load has been in the mid-teens and 20's since I opened my account 2 days ago. I have a feeling I am on a server that is too busy.

Can someone please help me or move my account to a server with more resources so I can do a basic thing like restore a backup?
Is a backup available
I tried to do an update on my website and corrupted something. Unfortunately, I didn't back it up beforehand. Does InMotion do automatic periodic backups? Anything from within the last 12 months would be helpful.
full backup in my cpanel is getting to 1hr and yet not completed

I started full backup in my cpanel since about 1hr ago , and yet is not completed

I cannot backup my site
I have tried to do a backup my site since june. Today I have two from April and May. The email never send me the result and I can't see my backup. What can I do?
backup configure

we want to know how congirue this option

Status of backup uncertain
Hi, I posted a question last night, (logged into amp and c-panel with my username, it shows 6 hits but i can't see any answers in support. I am trying to do a full backup of my site, haven't done one before. I tried to do it from cpanel>File>Backup, and it is still saying "Full backup in Progress, will email you when it completes" but i never got it. I then read further and then did a backup through Softaculous. Is a back of this the same thing? it went through last night, but now the downloaded file states "Pending" in my download folder. why didn't the other backup work and what is the diff between the two types of backups?
Require the backup file of automatic backup
Hi Guys,

I have a reseller account and one of my client's database got lost yesterday. I have requested the backup restore using online chat but when nothing happened 7 hours later I have requested through online chat again and they created a new ticket for me number 2536067 but then couple of hours later I receive the following message:

Your request for Data Restoration for mmsservices.co.uk has been processed.
Current Status: Canceled
Technician Comments: Unfortunately we were unable to restore this database from our backups. As this database relies on the innodb database engine, the contents of the database in our backup have become corrupt and would not be able to be restored. If you have a backup that we can restore from, please let us know.

Honestly it was really disappointing that after almost 12 hours later I have received an email stating that it can't be restore. I have explained on the first place that I have lost it completely and don't have back up at all.

Now just spoke to the online chat agent and he hasn't been any help at all. I'm sure you realize by now that I'm not having a good time. So I'm sorry if I sound bitter or rude.

Can you guys please provide me the backup of corrupted database marwaht3_mms_s0ha1l of which edward confirm in my first chat that you have backup at

"Thank you for your patience Zeeshan. We have a backup as of 12/06/15 02:58 pacific time."

Please I'm running against time here now and really appreciate the help here. If you could provide me the backup file even if it's corrupted I can try to restore it using online help as I have seem some people suggested the solution for innodb corrupted database. Or worse if I can open that file in notepad at least I can try to recover some vital information manually.

Hope you understand my situation and help me with this.

Best Regards
Zeeshan Sabri
Full Backup Not Working
For the last two days cpanel Full Backup has not been working. Is this a problem with my server or is there something I need to do to reset the backup process?
Is it possible to force a backup on a vps?
Is it possible to force a backup on a vps without creating a new task?

Hello Dfao,

Thanks for your question regarding "Backup configure."  Your question regarding backups if unclear.  We're not sure if you're referring to the Backup Manager in AMP, the backup option in cPanel, or another backup application with your account.  If you mean the AMP option for the Backup Manager you can go to this page for an overview:  Backups and Restorations. Additionally, you can go to How to Perform a Full Backup in cPanel for instructions for that option.

If you are referring to a different backup option, please provide us more information and we can try to find information for you.

Kindest regards,

Hello and thanks for contacting us. I recommend you ensure creating a backup doesn't exceed your account storage limit, check cPanel error logs, or contact Live Support for further assistance.

Hello jlbrown,

Thank you for your question regarding available backups. It depends on your specific plan and the options that you are subscribed to. Due to this, I recommend contacting our Live Support team so they can provide account-specific assistance in a non-public setting.

Thank you,

Hello,

Thank you for your question about backups in your VPS. A backup would create a new task. I don't think you can start a backup without creating a task or a job that will be running until the process completes. Is there some background on the issue that you're having that you could provide? Are you having trouble with backups? Or, is there some situation in which you need to "force" it?

Best,

You will need to provide us with more specifics as to where the process might be failing. If you continue to have trouble I suggest contacting our Live Support department, so they can attempt the backup from here.

Hello jenfrisby, Thank you for your question on uploading files. You can contact support and request to be moved but the load is actually fine as the servers have more than 20 cpu cores in them. However cPanel does not allow large file uploads via the file manager so the only way to upload the big files would be via FTP. Best Regards, TJ Edens

Hello Zeeshan,

Thank you for your question on your database backup. If your database backup is corrupted, the Support team may not be able to recover it in order to provide it to you. Unfortunately, here at the Support Center, we are unable to perform any account specific tasks. These types of tasks require verification of the account, which cannot be done here on the public forum. You will need to contact Live Support as you have been in order for them to see what they can do for you.

Kindest Regards,

Hello StoneCropSister, Thank you for the question on your backups. Apologies on the original question. The Support Center is 'open' Mon-Fri 8am-9pm for answers within 60 minutes. Questions asked outside that time frame are answered the next business day when it 'opens' again, though you can post questions at any time. It is meant for general knowledge questions where time is not of the essence. For time sensitive questions, be sure to contact Live Support as they are direct contact and can also give specific account information that we cannot give here in a public forum. As to your questions, you are doing what is known as a Full Backup. This backs up every file, email, and database in your cPanel. This will take longer than any partial backup. The length of time for a full backup can vary depending on the size of the account and how busy the server is at the time. If it does seem to take incredibly long, however, feel free to contact Live Support so they can check the server and see what is going on for your particular account. The Softaculous backups are for the specific program you are working with at that point. For example, if you have both a WordPress and a Joomla installation, but are looking in Softaculous under your WordPress section, then using the backup will only back up the WordPress application. These are smaller backups and great to do if you are getting ready to make any changes to that application. There is usually no need for a full backup at that point. Full backups are great to make on a schedule, say once a week/month/day, whatever you desire. These should be downloaded and kept on your local machine and then used as insurance in case something disastrous happens on your site. Full backups will restore all databases, emails, and files to the point in time it was created. With either type of backup, if it stays in 'pending' longer than you think it should (just a few minutes for Softaculous backups, and a couple of hours on a full backup), be sure to contact Live Support so they can check your individual account and see what the server is doing. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Kindest Regards, Scott M

Hello,

Apologies for the seeming uncaring response that you may have received from our support systems. The backups for the website were un-recoverable per the ticket. I reviewed the ticket and the notes on the account. I do not blame you for the considerable frustration that this event has caused. The problem is that as per the systems team who were looking at the server, they could not recover the files (due to the server issue). Unfortunately, this may occur and we also rely on the user to have a backup of their own if the online backup is not usable.

We do care about the issue, but we have no way to recover any data for you at this point. Online backups are typically 24-36 hours old and they overwrite the previous backups. At this point, unless the systems team can find an old backup of your site, then we have no way to recover it.

We do sincerely apologize for the headache and frustration for the loss of your website. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Regards,
Arnel C.

Hello AZUKHiker,

I looked at this and ended up escalating it to our systems people. It appears that the script got hung up on something - not exactly sure what. They killed the ongoing script from your cron job to fix the issue. Systems suggests using the Cpanel button, but if you are trying to automate it, then you would be best off using the CRON job. You may need to double-check your script if it continues to cause issues. Re-check it again and let us know if the problem persists.

If you have any further questions, please contact technical support or leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

Regards,

Hi X-Ware,

Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you today. In file manager, you should be able to select the directory and "compress." Then you will need to select the method of compression you would like. Of course, depending on the size of the directory will determine how long the process takes. Once the file is compressed you can then download the file. I've tested this out on my dev account to ensure it works as I have directed.

If you need further assistance please feel free to contact me.

Thanks!
