SSL on addon domain with a SSL secured main domain

Hi

I have two websites on my account - one under my domain and one in a subdirectory. The domain has installed SSL on it. Now I am considering to purchase an addon domain for the subdirectory site but I am concerned that it will cause a lot of SSL-troubles. If I don't install SSL on the addon, then will I get SSL inconsistency issue on the subdirectory site? Is it at all possible to install SSL on the addon domain? I heard that SNI makes it possible? But also that it uses shared IPs. Does that make the certificate on the addon less secure/accepted? And will it cause troubles to use two certificates given that the sites are connected (I mean the subdirectory structure)?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us about SSL on your addon domain. Using SNI and a shared IP will not affect the SSL or how trusted the site is. If you do move it to an addon domain you would have to get an SSL for that specific domain, your existing one will not work for it. You can get them through auto SSL for free or purchase one if you were looking for an insured one. The only issues you would run into when moving it without SSL is you may still have URLs set using https:// in the site, however, this should not be an issue since you will have to change all the URLs to match the new domain anyway so you could change the https :// to http:// at the same time should you choose not to use an SSL on the addon domain.
