Shared hosting: Addon domain folder

I am a shared hosting customer.
I understand that addon domains must be created in folders under public_html.
My question is: Can I create folders under /home (but outside public_html) with permission setting of 0755 to host addon domains? This is basically for convenience in maintenance. Are there any risks and/or limitations in doing so?
I tried creating a couple of sites as mentioned above and they seemed to be working well so far..
Any comments, suggestions, advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, Thank you for your question regarding creating addon folders outside of the public_html. If you want something to be accessible "publicly" it would have to still be under the public_html folder. When you create an Addon domain, it also creates a separate folder (known as the document root) for storing the website such as: /public_html/example.com You can request a document root change for your sites. But keep in mind: Changing a primary domain doc root is NEVER RECOMMENDED by InMotion Hosting. cPanel restores packages based on default settings and miss document root changes. So if the account is moved, the accounts with the doc root change may break. Thank you, John-Paul
