WordPress site breaks when upgrade php to 5.6 in cpanel

I need to upgrade my php to version 5.6 from 5.3 in order for some of my WordPress plugins to be able to update. However, when I do, my site breaks and pages are blank and nothing works. When I put it back to 5.3, everything works perfectly. I have an add-on domain in my VPS that's in the same account that I tested it on (by changing the .htaccess file to update php without adjusting the cpanel for the whole account) and it worked fine. So not sure why when I change the main account php to 5.6 it doesn't work. Any suggestions? The error message says "Headers already sent" and references the files wp-config.php and pluggable.php. So I'm thinking it might be something with the core WP files in version 4.6.1. Any ideas?

Hello,

Thank you for your question regarding a WordPres site breaking when upgrading to PHP 5.6. It may be helpful to create a phpinfo page for comparing the specific environments.

If your problems persist, I recommend following our WordPress Troubleshooting guide to narrow down the cause.
