Rebuilding site and moving domain from old host to InMotion

Given an existing site 'example.com' built with proprietary tools on another host provider. I would like to rebuild from scratch the site using Wordpress. My InMotion main site is 'example.net' - I will be using 'example.net' to construct the new site. Questions: 1. When I finally I transfer/add the domain 'example.com' to InMotion is all I have to do is add 'example.com' at the top level public_html instead of sub directory and update the Permlinks to get it to work properly? 2. Once 'example.com' is set, can I move 'example.us' to a different site (subdirectory) where I'll either have a redirect to 'example.com' or use it as a secondary site to test and play.

Hello Ricknahass,

Thanks for the questions about rebuilding your site and then renaming the WordPress site with your original domain name. Here are the answers to your questions:

1. When I finally I transfer/add the domain 'example.com' to InMotion is all I have to do is add 'example.com' at the top level public_html instead of sub directory and update the Permlinks to get it to work properly?

When you change the URL for the website, you need to make changes within the wpconfig.php file of the WordPress site. You can find those directions by reviewing Changing the site URL.

2. Once 'example.com' is set, can I move 'example.us' to a different site (subdirectory) where I'll either have a redirect to 'example.com' or use it as a secondary site to test and play.

You used "Example.net" as your InMotion Hosting account in your question above. If you're referring to a new domain named Example.us, you can always add it as an Add-on domain to the same account using the cPanel. Or if you were referring to using "Example.net", then, yes, you can use it as an add-on domain in the cPanel when you have changed the primary domain to the .com name.

I hope this helps to answer your questions, please let us know if you require any further assistance. Regards, Arnel C.
