Convert website to wordpress

I want to convert my current website to wordpress. I installed wordpress and a theme and deleted all the files on my current site. However, I can't see the wordpress theme on my site, but only the empty background page of my old site. I want it to come up as my homepage and I don't know what I've done wrong nor how to fix it.

It sounds like you still have leftover files from your old site and it may be loading an index.html file instead of the WordPress index.php file. I recommend using the cPanel File Manager to delete any other index files that you may have other than the index.php file that is required by WordPress.
