I want to upgrade from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5. Can I install 2.5 on the site as another website and then migrate the modules over to make sure they work?

Hello, and thanks for the great question. You can have two separate installations of Joomla on your account at once. One way to go about it is like you've stated, simply install a new copy of Joomla 2.5 on your account, and then migrate over your old stuff piece by piece. Another option would be to Upgrade Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 using the jUpgrade extension. If you wanted to do a dry run before upgrading your live Joomla installation, you could accomplish this by making a duplicate install of your current Joomla setup and then upgrading that one. To do that you'd first want to backup your database in cPanel. Then create a database in cPanel with a different name from the original Joomla install. After that import the database using phpMyAdmin that you backed up. Now just copy all of your Joomla files to a new directory, and then in your configuration.php file in that new directory, you'd want to update your $db variable to point to the copied database.
