Hello, Thanks for the question. Just to be clear, it appears that you're paying for web hosting on Wix and also InMotion Hosting. Since you posted this question anonymously, I have no way to check what kind of account you have, so I'll try to provide the possibilities. If you have registered a Domain Name with our Hosting and your account is ONLY a Domain Registration account, then you may need to only change the name servers over to Wix's name servers. Check out this link on How to Change Name servers in the Account Management Panel (AMP). Wix's name servers can be found here. IF you have a full hosting account here and you want to direct your domain name to launch the website you created at Wix, then you will need to make a DNS change called an "A record change." DNS changes like an A record change can only be made from InMotion if you have a hosting account (which is different from a Domain Registration only account). However, this is where it gets a little confusing, so pay close attention:
  • You cannot make changes to DNS records that were created during account creation. This is true for Business level accounts. If you are on a VPS or Dedicated server, then you can make changes if you have root access. If you're confused by this, then I highly recommend that you contact technical support through email/chat/phone. You will need to provide verification of your account using either the last 4 digits of the credit card on the account, OR, your Account Management Panel (AMP) password. This is done for security purposes.
  • You CAN make DNS changes such as adding an A record if you are working with a domain that is NOT your primary/main domain (the domain you used to create the account). The Advanced DNS editor can be easily used to make the change. Note that you will need to obtain your IP address from Wix for the website you have with them.
Finally, if you are indeed paying for a hosting account with InMotion Hosting, then it's also possible that you are paying for a hosting account with Wix. Basically, you're paying for two different hosting accounts. You may need to look at the services you've purchased in order to assess how they're being used and if they are what you need. The main difference is that InMotion Hosting does provide email service, which Wix does not. If you intend to keep the Wix template, then you will need to keep an active account with them as they do not allow you to export the developed website from their servers. Apologies - as I know this is probably very confusing to you. Just to summarize:
  • You have a Wix website that you need to associate with a domain name
  • You can "point" the domain name to Wix from InMotion in one of two ways - depending on your account type. If you're unsure, then contact our technical support
I hope this helps to clarify the issue! Please let us know if you have any further questions or comments. Our Support team is available 24/7 if you need immediate assistance or need to speak with someone on a live basis. Regards, Arnel C.
