Connection Time Out Problem

I am running a simulation where students connect to your server to download output and to upload decision files. When students at one university attempt to connect to the server they receive the following message:
"Connection time out. A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed to respond."

When I run the program from my computer it connects quickly with no problem. Students at other universities also seem to be able to connect with no problem. I am at a loss to explain why the students at one university are having the problem while others are not. Any thought from your end would be appreciated.

The program we are using is written in VB6 using a FTPS .dll for the uploads and downloads. The program has been running in various forms for over 40 years.

Hi bpgsim5, Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you. It sounds as if the problem may be the school is using a firewall. We've seen this at other universities. With that being said, the easiest way to troubleshoot this type of issue is to run a ping/ trace test from the computer having the problem. Here's a guide to running a ping and traceroute test: How to run a Ping/ Trace Once you have the results, if you post them, I'm more than happy to take a look to see where the connection issue lies. I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
