How do I "clone" my current WordPress website?

Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible to set up a clone test site as I would like to take the newest versions of Wordpress and an Theme/Software that I use to see if I can get modifications that I use currently on my original site to work. If so, how can I do this? Can a child theme be built as well?

Hi LauraE, Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you today. Ideally, you can set up a subfolder and copy all your WordPress files to this new folder. Then you'll need to create a new database using phpMyAdmin. You'll want to export the current WordPress database to you local computer and import it into the new database. After you've done that, you'll need to update the new WordPress wp-config.php file with your new database credentials. Creating a new database is phpMyAdmin Importing a database in phpMyAdmin Child Themes in WordPress I've included a link to the child themes article in WordPress. Are you trying to use a theme on both sites by creating a child theme? Also, you may want to make sure your development site is not indexed by Google as the content will be the same as your original WordPress installation and can hurt your website's rankings. I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
