How do I create custom tables in my WordPress database?

Hi,
I need to create a simple sortable database for U.S. States and other variables like categories: A, B, and C. And have the user get results by clicking State(s) and A, B and/or C and view results in a simple list by event date.
My friend told me it's easy with MySQL and PHP but I do not know MySQL NOR myPHP.

And ideas would be appreciated.

Hi bordercollie, Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you today. WordPress has a plugin to create custom tables, I'd suggest at looking how to use this plugin. WordPress Custom Tables Plugin I've not personally used the plugin before, so I can't speak about it's learning curve however, it may require you to have some understanding of MySQL. Depending on exactly what you are trying to do (manage a sortable calendar) for instance, there may be a plugin already written for it. If you can provide some more details into the nature of what you are trying to accomplish I can try to find you a suitable plugin for WordPress. With that being said, without coding experience what you are trying to accomplish is complex (it may be simple to solve with prior coding experience). There may not be a suitable plugin to actually produce the desired results you are looking for. I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
