Hi suemasevice,

There are several factors that could be causing you to experience the ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server error in your FileZilla FTP client.

You could be having issues similar to what we discuss in our article on EAI_NODATA errors.

Another possibility could be that you need to update your network options in FileZilla so that it can grab your appropiate external IP address, typically assigned by your router. You could follow these steps to do this:

  1. Open FileZilla
  2. Click on Edit from the top menu, then click on Network Configuration Manager.

If this is your first time configuring FileZilla's network settings you will be at the Firewall and route configuration wizard.

  3. Select Passive (recommended) and Allow fallback to other transfer mode on failire and click Next.
  4. On the Configure passive mode page select Use the server's external IP address instead and click Next.
  5. Select the Get external IP address from the following URL option, then you can leave the default of http://ip.filezilla-project.org/ip.php
  6. On the Configure port range page you can leave Ask operating system for a port selected, and click on Next.
  7. Finally on the Configuration test page, click on Test. If you don't receive any errors than you should be good to go.

Additional things that could cause these types of errors would be either your hardware or software firewall preventing FileZilla from connecting, or possibly an anti-virus software that you have installed that is not allowing it to connect.

If you're still having any issues at all after trying either of these solutions please let us know so that we can update our documentation accordingly!

Thanks!
