Cannot delete spam folder

I use Mac Mail to read my email. I don't use the spam folder, and it doesn't appear on any of my iOS devices, or in the web mail. But I cannot delete the spam folder from the folder list on my Mac. I'm only getting this problem with the mail accounts hosted by inmotionhosting. I have several other email accounts (not with inmotionhosting) and those accounts do not have persistent spam folders. I've tried deleting it via webmail, but it isn't there to be deleted. I've tried subscribing and unsubscribing to the spam folder on webmail. I've also tried subscribing to the spam folder, and then deleting the folder on my Mac; all that happens is the folder gets unsubscribed (as seen in webmail), but the folder remains in the list on my Mac.
I know it's not doing any harm having the folder on the Mac, but I would like to delete it because it is wasting screen real estate. I also have several inmotionhosting email accounts on my Mac, and each of them has suddenly spawned a persistent spam folder in the last few weeks.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hi Steve,

I looked at the issue of the non-deletable SPAM folder for a long while. I reviewed it on my own Mac (MacBook Pro 2 running Mac OS Sierra ver. 10.2.5). I was able to duplicate your problem. Even when I removed the account, the spam folder returns. At this point, it appears to be a "feature" of cPanel in that won't go away when I remove it unless I turn OFF the spam folder in SpamAssassin. We are still looking into the matter to see if it can be resolved.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Kindest regards,
Arnel C.
