When you signed up for your web hosting package with InMotion Hosting you gained the ability to create unlimited email addresses. If your domain is yourdomain.com you could have many different email accounts such as tim@yourdomain.com, sales@yourdomain.com, and many more. Anytime you want to create a new email address you can do so in cPanel. This article is for the first time email user who is setting up a brand new email account. How to create an email account How to access your Email AccountBefore you begin to setup your email client, you must first decide what protocol you would like to use. POP vs. IMAPOur servers support both the POP and the IMAP protocol for receiving email. When connecting with POP, the emails are removed from the server and are stored on your local computer. IMAP, unlike POP, does not remove email from the server. Instead, IMAP gives you a listing of your email on the server, and downloads a copy only when you open a particular email to read it.
Please note: IMAP is currently only offered with Business class and higher plans. For more information on different types of email accounts view our video on: Pop vs Imap Setting up your Email ClientAn email client is a program that you use to send and receive email. There are two general options Webmail and a email desktop client.
WebmailWebmail allows you to check your email from within your browser, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox or Safari.
Desktop Email ClientsA desktop email client is a program that runs on your local computer, such as Microsoft Outlook or Mac Mail, that allows you to send and receive email.
Desktop email clients run much faster than Webmail as you are not using a web based application. Also, as your email is stored on your local computer and not on a web server, you are able to store many more and much larger emails compared with Webmail. Desktop email clients require that you manually configure your incoming and outgoing mail servers. Basic Email SettingsYou will need the following basic settings to configure your email client:
