I received a “Your site has updated to WordPress 3.x.x” email Updated on April 9, 2014 by Scott Mitchell 1 Minutes, 16 Seconds to Read WordPress Automatic Update Email Recently we began getting contacts about an email that appears to be sent by WordPress regarding an update. Many people have concerns about the email. They wonder whether it is spam, suspicious, or an otherwise malicious email. The email text appears as below: Howdy! Your site at *example.com* has been updated automatically to WordPress 3.8.2. No further action is needed on your part. For more on version 3.8.2, see the About WordPress screen: If you experience any issues or need support, the volunteers in the WordPress.org support forums may be able to help. https://wordpress.org/support/ You also have some plugins or themes with updates available. Update them now: Should I be concerned by this email? You need not be concerned about the email. It is not a spam email nor does it contain any links to viruses or malware. It is simply a new implementation to notify you of background updates to your WordPress site. But I didn’t update my WordPress! WordPress does the minor updates automatically. These are mostly for maintenance and security issues and need to be implemented in a timely manner. This new feature was implemented in version 3.7. Major updates will NOT be performed automatically. Can I disable this feature? While the minor updates are enabled automatically by default, you can certainly disable the feature if desired. We do not recommend disabling this as you may miss important security updates for your site. Still, if you desire to do so, you can find configuration instructions here.
