How to Configure Greylisting Settings in WHM

When using Greylisting on your Dedicated or VPS Hosting server you can adjust settings such as the deferral period and record expiration time. Adjusting these settings based on your email users can help them receive valid emails and reduce the amount of spam they receive. In this guide, we will show you how to configure Greylisting settings in WHM, which is part of a good spam prevention plan.

Configure Greylisting Settings

  1. Log into WHM as the ‘root‘ user.
  2. Type ‘grey‘ in the search field then click the Greylisting link under Email.
  3. Click the top button to toggle Greylisting On or Off.
  4. You will then be on the Configuration Settings tab. Choose your settings as needed, here is a description of the options.

    Initial Deferral Period (in minutes)This is how long the first email is deferred or put on hold.
    Resend Acceptance Period (in minutes)Enter the amount of time the sender has to re-send the email.
    Record Expiration Time (in minutes)After this time ends, the sender’s email address is forgotten and regarded as a new sender.
    Bypass Greylisting for Hosts with Valid SPF RecordsCheck this box to automatically allow senders with verified SPF records to skip the greylisting.
  5. Click the Save button. You are finished when you see a message stating “The system successfully saved your Greylisting configuration settings.
