Using static html is there a way to take votes on topics?

Fred Krogh 1 month ago in Website / How To updated by Alyssa K 1 month ago 1

Not a lot of traffic, but I'd like to capture votes like up/down, yes/no, rate(1 to 5) on various topics on a page.  I'm starting here with nothing more than elementary knowledge of html, but a programming background.  Never  actually used javascript of php, etc. but should be able to learn.  I value simplicity!  Thanks for any suggestions,

Fred

Hello Fred Krogh,

Thank you for your question regarding HTML. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide coding advice. I recommend consulting a developer that works with HTML and PHP for assistance with this task.

how to change user name

I originally set up this website with the assistance of a consultant, and now I'd like to update my user name. How can I perform this update?

Hello Tina,

Thank you for your question regarding user name changes. Depending on what username you are attempting to change, this process will differ. If you are looking to change the cPanel username on your account, unfortunately it is not possible to do so at this time. If you are looking to change the username on your WordPress site, pleas see the following guide for instructions:

I purchased WP-2000S - how do I activate my second wordpress site? thx!

Joe Heller 4 months ago in Website / How To updated by Ronnie H. (Content Marketing Coordinator) 4 months ago 1

is this something I can do through cpanel? or is this something you need to do? thank you!

Answer

Hi, Joe! The exact steps you need to take will depend on how much you've already taken care of. I'm going to write a brief guide to the process as though you've done nothing except upgrade your account, but of course please skip ahead in the process if you've already done part of this.

After upgrading your account, you effectively have more 'space' on your hosting plan, but until the domain and site are set up that's all that has been added: the free space to put a new site.

First, if you have not already done so, be sure to register your domain name for your second site

If you register a domain through us, it should automatically point to the correct nameservers. If you have registered a domain elsewhere, though, you will need to make sure that the domain is pointing to our nameservers

Now, you need add that domain to your cPanel account as an addon domain. This is like telling cPanel that you are going to be using that 'free space' for this particular domain.

With all that out of the way, all that's left is to install WordPress! Since you're using one of our Shared WordPress hosting plans, I'd suggest installing WordPress using Softaculous

Hope that helps!

How do I update my webpage?

lauragourlay 6 months ago in Website / How To updated by Alyssa K 6 months ago 1

I need to change information on my webpage, which was originally created by someone else, but I am not in charge of the page.  I do not know how to access the page for changing information and updating.

Hello lauragourlay,

Thank you for your question regarding updating your webpage. Unfortunately, without more information it is hard for me to provide specific advice. Ultimately, how you update your site will depend on how it was built and where it is being hosted. If the site is being hosted by InMotion, you will need to contact our Customer Service team to discuss account retrieval.

If your site was hosted elsewhere, you will likely need to get in touch with their Customer Service to retrieve your account. If your site was built using WordPress or Joomla! then there may be a username and password that will allow you to login to the dashboard and edit the site as you see fit. You will likely need to get that information from the person that built the site.

We do hope this helps, please let us know if you have any further questions.

Best Regards,

Alyssa K.

Stage or Swap Website?

fblittle 1 year ago in Website / How To 0
I want to change my Theme from the Enfold Theme that I am now using to using the DIVI theme, however, it requires me to re-write each page if there is any change to the page because it looks like the content on each page must be built by only one editor or things won't work right on the modified pages. I would like to "Stage" this website so that I can modify my web pages then restore the modified Pages to my site without disrupting my site for the visitors. What is the best way to do this?

Can I build and then transfer another website on my Inmotion account to my primary site?

My Second Question is: Is there a generic domain that I can use to stage a website then transfer it to my primary website? Do I have to buy another domain just to test a website?

From my questions, you can probably understand what I am trying to do. If you have any advice or suggestions, please let me know what I need to do to get there and what the best, easiest, way of doing this at inmotion?

How can I access a domain i added in cpanel without updating dns

maarteno 2 years ago in Website / How To 0
I can access the domain name with the files in public_html via http://vps####.inmotionhosting.com/~[cpanel username]/ If i add a domain, say example .com it sits in /example.com/ Is there a way for me to access that via e.g. http://vps####.inmotionhosting.com/~[cpanel username]/example.com ? I'd like to be able to migrate my site, see if it all looks good and only then change the DNS settings.
