ICANN domain transfer policies have changed as of 1 December 2016. Updates to whois information are considered a change of ownership and may warrant a 60-day transfer lock.

You are able to manage your domains that have been registered through InMotion Hosting in your Account Management Panel (or AMP). Any changes made in your registration details will show in the information that displays on a WHOIS lookup on your domain.

Important. If you are intending to transfer the domain at any point in the next few months, changes made in the first name, last name, organization name, or administrative email address are considered a change of ownership and may place a 60-day transfer lock on the domain. Read the ICANN transfer policy updates article linked above for more information.

Changing your domain information

  1. Log into your AMP interface.
  2. In the main menu, move your mouse over Domains and click Manage domains.
  3. Next, select the domain that you want to change the WHOIS information for, by clicking on its name.
  4. Then click on the link labeled Review or change your registration details?
  5. You are taken to a page that allows you to change the email address, address, and phone number of the domain. Click Edit by the section you want to change and fill in the new information.
  6. Once the new information is added, click on the Submit button to save it.

Changes to your account can take up to 24 hours before updating in a WHOIS search. Remember that any information you change for your domain must remain accurate. If you want to hide your personal information then you can purchase domain privacy for your domain. I'm able to change the admin information, but the registrant information is way outdated and I cannot access that from this suggestion. How do I get down deeper so I can remove the name and phone of the person that is currently listed (no longer with the organization) and make it current?

I recently transferred a domain to my account, so I just wanted to check, is the Email from the Technical Details form the same as the Registry email?

I've recently become webmaster for and have tried to update the Organization Name with the actual organization name. However, that change will not be accepted by your system. The former member who signed the org up for the domain name has transferred admin duties to another club member due to leaving the club, but there seems to be no way to remove her name from the Organization Details slot. 

Also, would like to have the domain verification emails re-sent because we keep getting notices the domain will be suspended.

You will need to contact our Live Support team so they can manually change that information. They can also have the verification email resent to you at that time.

Hello, I updated the WHOIS information quite some time ago with the company email.  However the if i google my email address as above, it still comes up as registered under my old personal email address.  Is there something you need to do on your side to ensure my personal email address does not come up associated to the websites?

If you updated your WHOIS and it is showing when you do a WHOIS lookup, then everything is set on our side.

If the sites showing in your results are from your sites, you can request a recrawl, which should update the information. If it is showing on someone else's site, you may have to contact them to update the pages.

Sorry to hear that it did not work properly. You may need to contact Live Support and have them do it for you. They are very happy to do so and they will also report any malfunction to the Dev team to get fixed.

Thank you Scott! This is a clear answer. Your answer should appear instead of the official advise. Nobody want to lose the domain privacy just because one of the field needs to be updated. 

I hope that "inmotion hosting" will implement a self service menu for WHOIS record updates and a domain privacy on/off switch.

Hi! If I disable Domain Privacy, can I get it back after I cancel it? I want to change my Registrar Name and Admin Name, then re-enable domain privacy. Thanks.

Hello MegaLegacy,

The short answer to your question is yes. However, to make it easier on you, you can simply contact Live Support and tell them the specific fields you want to change and they can do it without having to undo privacy and then redo it again. This will also avoid any confusion if it tries to charge you again.

I need to change my email in domain info records. So, from AMP page I went to My Account > Domain Management > Domain Management > Edit Details and changed mail addresses in all the sections (Administrative, Billing, Technical). The day after, in my domain info records, I got changed the Admin Mail and the Tech Mail but NOT the Registrant Mail. How can I have the Registrant mail changed?

It might simply have been a delay through the Domain Registrar on the update. When I look at your WHOIS information I see the registrant email, admin email, and tech email all being the same. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at your account, and it does appear that you removed domain privacy (you set it to expire in the Account Management Panel (AMP)). The change to the domain - like any change to the domain settings- requires a little time to propagate. You should see the change apply to the domain within 24 hours.
