How to Restore a WordPress Backup with UpdraftPlus

Now that you know how to install UpdraftPlus and create a backup, we will show you how to restore a WordPress backup using UpdraftPlus. This can help revert your website after a crash, hack, or failed upgrade for example. It can also be used for migrating your site by restoring it on another server.

Restore a WordPress Backup

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click Settings then UpdraftPlus in the navigation menu.

  3. Click the Restore button.

  4. You will then see any backups listed. You can also place a backup file in the /wp-content/updraft folder or upload other backups by clicking Upload backup files, then the Select Files button to choose a file.

  5. Next to the backup you want to use, click the Restore button.

  6. A box will appear and warn you that “Restoring will replace this site’s themes, plugins, uploads, database and/or other content directories (according to what is contained in the backup set, and your selection). ” Select the items that you want to restore such as Plugins, Themes, Uploads, Others, and Database. In this example, we are restoring everything.

  7. Click the Restore button.

  8. The backup file will then be processed, click the Restore button to begin the restoration.

    You will see a “Restore successful” message on the bottom of the UpdraftPlus Restoration Progress page.
