Control Web Panel (CWP) has email server capabilities for easy email account management. The Roundcube email client is included so that users aren’t required to download desktop software to begin email communications.
Below we’ll cover how to set up a CWP mail server. We’ll also briefly discuss how to redirect email communications from the CWP server to third party email providers.

Create an Email Account in Control Web Panel
Follow these steps to create CWP email accounts.
- Log into CWP.
- On the left select Email Accounts.
- On the right select Add new domain email. If you wish to create an email account for a subdomain (e.g. subdomain.example.com), select Add new subdomain email.
- Select a CWP end user to manage the account from the drop-down page. Create a CWP user account if necessary.
- Type an email address and select a domain from the drop-down menu. For example, [email protected] or [email protected], etc.
- Type a strong password.
- Select Create Mail. You’ll return to the list of mailbox accounts now displaying the email account root directory and data stats.
Action links on the right side of each email account allow you to quickly:
- Auto-login to Roundcube from CWP
- Reset the email user password
- Suspend or delete email accounts
Email aliases, or forwarders, are great for two common scenarios:
- Forward emails to a group of recipients (e.g. [email protected])
- Consolidate any emails to the domain in one inbox (e.g. [email protected] and [email protected] to [email protected])
Here are the steps to forward CWP email accounts.
- On the left select Email Aliases/Forwarders.
- Select Add new alias.
- Type an email address to forward. Or type an asterisk “*” to create a catch-all address that forwards anything addressed to the domain at one single email account.
- Type the email address(es) to receive forwarded emails. Note that the email address you forward will no longer retain emails in the inbox. Therefore, if you want the forwarding address to save emails you’ll need to add it as one of the “Forward To” addresses as well.
- Select Create Alias.
Running your own mail server grants the ability to control how users can manage email. A user’s preferred workflow and IT expertise can affect whether someone prefers to use a server-based app or something installed on their personal device. Fortunately, CWP email accounts can be accessed from any email client by default.
Roundcube is a solid webmail application that mobile users can use online whenever away from their workstation. Again, it is already installed on your CWP server and ready to use. The URL to access Roundcube will resemble “http://your-server-hostname.com:2030/roundcube/.”
On the Roundcube email login prompt, your username is the full email address. Type your Roundcube webmail login credentials and select Login. Customizations are saved per email account.

Routing to Email Providers with Custom Domains
Some companies may only want to host their website on your CWP server. They may have built their internal infrastructure around a customer relationship management (CRM) system that doubles as a third party email provider. The most popular examples are Google Workspace and Zoho. Or, a company may have invested in a paid email hosting service such as Protonmail, Fastmail, or Pobox.
You can change the email routing for a domain between local and remote exchangers by first selecting Mail Routing from the dashboard sidebar. Use “local,” the default option, if your CWP server will manage emails for the domain. Select [Change] to set the domain to “remote” if emails to and from the domain will be managed by another email server.
If you change a domain to “remote,” remember to update its MX records accordingly.
Desktop Email Clients
Advanced users and those working on multiple projects may have a more customized workflow and prefer to consolidate other email accounts in a single desktop email application. The biggest advantage to this is the ability to download emails from the server and work offline. Here’s a short list you can share with users seeking these benefits and setup instructions.
Microsoft Outlook is the most popular desktop email client for Windows users.
Mac Mail is the default email application for macOS systems.
Thunderbird is the most popular open source email client for Linux and BSD users. It is natively installed with some *nix-based desktop environments (DE) including Cinnamon and XFCE.
Evolution is a free email app which ships with the GNOME DE for *nix-based operating systems.
