Often, when multiple people are all collaborating on a single WordPress site, you may need to track user activity. In this article, we will introduce you to the Stream plugin for WordPress which will monitor all activity that occurs within your WordPress site such as updated posts, updated pages, or any configuration changes made.
Installing the Stream plugin
- First, begin by logging into your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Once logged in, hover over Plugins on the left side admin menu and click on Add New.
In the search box at the top right of this page, type in Stream and press the Enter key.
You should now be presented with your search results. As we have searched the exact name of the plugin, you should see it as the first result. To begin the installation, click on Install Now.
WordPress will then automatically handle the download and installation of the Stream plugin. Once complete, be sure to click on Activate Plugin to activate the Stream plugin.
Configuring Stream to monitor your WordPress activity
- The begin configuration, click on Stream on the top of the left side admin menu.
As of Stream 2.0, you now need to connect to Stream using your WordPress.com ID. To begin, click on the Connect to Stream button.
You will then be prompted to enter your WordPress.com credentials. You may enter them here.
A free plan or pro plan will now need to be selected for Stream. With Stream Pro, you will get notifications over email and SMS, longer activity history, and report generation. Depending on if you need any of these additional features, select the appropriate plan that best fits your needs. Keep in mind, you can upgrade at any time.
Once you have selected your plan, you may go back to the Stream section in WordPress if you are not already redirected there. This is your new activity log and will show any new activity that occurs within the WordPress admin dashboard.
