If you're a Super Administrator in Joomla 3.0 and attempt to use the reset feature to reset your password, you'll get the following error message:
Reset password failed: A Super Administrator can't request a password reminder. Please contact another Super Administrator or use an alternative method.
To resolve this issue, you can use phpMyAdmin to manually reset your password within the database.
- Log into phpMyAdmin
If you're hosting Joomla 3.0 with InMotion Hosting, follow these steps to gain access to phpMyAdmin. If you're not hosting your website with InMotion Hosting, you should contact your hosting provider for help with logging into phpMyAdmin.
- Once logged in, in the left menu click the name of your Joomla 3.0 database.
- In the left menu, click the table named similar to _users. For example, if you have a table prefix of hl2rx, find the table named hl2rx_users and click on it.
- Find the Super User account in the list, and then click Edit next to it.
- Next to password, in the drop down menu select MD5. Next to that, enter your new password and then click Go.
You have successfully reset your Joomla 3.0 Super User password using phpMyAdmin! You should now be able to log into your Joomla 3.0 admin.
