With one of the email addresses setup on my shared hosting, I cannot access my email via Outlook because I keep getting a message which says "Something went wrong and Outlook couldn't save your account settings. Please try again." I have tried numerous times using the instructions provided on the Inmotion Hosting instructions. How do I fix this to retrieve my email?

Followed your instructions. Yes, It got past the error message; however, Outlook is still not syncing with pop.gmail.com or smtp after updating with the Google passord.

Hi Mark, and sorry to hear you're encountering this error as well. By any chance are you on the newly released Windows 11? I'm just asking so that we can pre-emptively figure out if that is likely to cause this issue.

As for advice, I'd suggest toggling AutoConfig/AutoDiscover. If you have that on, and are trying to connect to Google specifically, that may be causing an issue. Further, do you know if you're using InMotion Hosting nameservers, and managing your DNS Zones on cPanel, or if you're doing that somewhere else like CloudFlare? That could cause an issue as well.

Inmotion chat support said they couldn't help because "it's an Outlook problem." Fortunately, I was able to find a solution that worked for me online. I'm entering here for those who encounter the same message. If you are dealing with a similar situation, here's what you can do...

If you're trying to make your changes from File -> Account settings, try doing it from Send & Receive settings instead.

1. From inside Outlook, Press Ctrl+Alt+S
2. Click Edit
3. Select/click the account you want to update, then click "Account Properties"

Make your changes from there and you should avoid the "Something went wrong..." message and be able to save your changes and access your email again. Good luck!

Sorry we weren't able to help you more but thanks for sharing your resolution with others.
