High Database Queries per Second

"System administration has been monitoring high resource usage on your server and has traced it back to your account, phalor5. Upon review of your account's logged queries, your site has been querying your database at an average rate of 540 queries per second. This amount of activity is very intensive on the server, and we may be forced to suspend or have already suspended your site in order to stabilize the server."

This is a new glitch to me.  Not a professional at this.  Don't want site shut down.  Contacted Support and was told  this came from a ' higher tier Systems team. '???? and that th "higher tier systems team" review my site to see what I can do to reduce the level of MySQL interaction required by my site so that it does not adversely affect other users.  Not getting anywhere with what I can find and perhaps I am looking in the wrong place.  Any direction or advice on how to resolve this issue?  tks for any help.
