I am developing a Wordpress site for a friend on my Hosting Plan under my domain as test site. How do I point it to her registered domain once we have everything finished?

Thank you,

Anthony

I did more digging yesterday. Could I use add-on domains to add her domain to my cpanel and then just clone the wordpress install to the add-on domain? Or  would it be better to use a backup plugin to move the site? She purchased her domain through inmotion hosting,

Thank you,

Anthony

Anthony,

It would be easier to use the backup plugin method to transfer the site. Backup plugins like Total Upkeep work by taking a backup and restoring it.  The steps would involve installing the new site to an add-on domain, loading the Total Upkeep plugin,  taking the backup file,  and restoring it to the newly created WordPress site with the Total Upkeep program .

And yes, you can use add-on domains as long as that domain is not being used in a hosting account at this point.  If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest Regards,

Hello Anthony,

Thanks for the question about "pointing" your domain to the registered domain once everything is finished.  You can change nameservers for the domain to point at the hosting server.  So, if you're using a domain that you have already registered, then you can simply change its nameservers to point to InMotion Hosting's servers.

You can also use a backup plugin to move the WordPress site from its current location to the new hosting server.

I hope this helps to answer your question. If you need further assistance, please let us know!

Kindest regards,
Arnel C.
