Drupal Hosting Requirements

Disk Space: 100 Megabytes Minimum

Drupal’s minimum disk space requirement is 100MB of storage. It’s recommended to double or triple your disk space so that you have room to install modules and themes, and to provide space for media, backups, and other files generated by and uploaded to your site.

Our VPS Hosting and Dedicated Hosting accounts include more than enough disk space and RAM to host a Drupal Website.

Memory: 1GB RAM or Higher

Drupal’s minimum memory requirements require you have at least 1GB RAM in order to make sure Composer works. If you are using memory-intensive tools like Memcache, considerably more memory may be needed.

The minimum required memory size for PHP is 64MB, but you’ll find that 128MB or 256MB are typically found in production environments.

Web Server: Apache 2.4.7 or Greater

Drupal is supported on Linux, OS X, and Windows based web servers as long as it has Apache 2.4.7 or greater. InMotion Hosting’s servers run off the Linux operating system, with your choice of web-based control panel, or no control panel at all. We use the Apache web server with NGINX reverse proxy, and all of our latest servers are running a variation of Apache 2.x.

Drupal has a few requirements needed for Apache, such as:

• The Apache ‘mod_rewrite’ extension is required for clean, SEO-friendly URLs.
• The Apache Virtualhost configuration must contain the directive AllowOverride All to allow Drupal’s .htaccess file to be used.
• If the Apache server has Options +MultiViews enabled by default, then the Apache Virtualhost configuration should also contain Options -MultiViews.

Database Server: MySQL or MariaDB

The default installation of Drupal 10 requires a database, and is compatible with a number of database systems.

• MySQL 5.7.8 or greater
• MariaDB 10.3.7 or greater
• Percona Server 5.7.8 or greater
• PostgreSQL 10 or greater
• SQLite 3.26 or greater

PHP: PHP 8.1 or Greater

Drupal 10 requires at least PHP 8.1, however PHP 8.1.6 is recommended. Drupal will work on all supported (actively maintained) PHP versions. Recommended PHP versions are the best choice for building a Drupal site because they will remain supported longer.

Note: Drupal 9.4 dropped official support for PHP 7.3 as it has reached its End of Life. Drupal 9.4 and above do not support PHP versions that are no longer supported by the PHP maintainers.
