can no longer upload to FTP site

Disconnected from server Connection failed. Too many connections (8) from this IP

I'm only attempting to upload a project in the normal way that I have thousands of times before, what does this mean and how do you fix it?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us about a server Connection failed. Too many connections (8) from this IP error. Most shared hosting plans are limited to 8 simultaneous FTP connections at a time and this typically happens when an FTP client such as FileZilla opens multiple connections without closing the previous ones, or if there is an incorrect setting. If you have access to the FTP client that is causing the problems, you may be able to edit the settings to limit the number of connections. If you have a VPS or Dedicated server you can delete the FTP sessions from cPanel. All of this is covered in our full guide on 421 Too many connections.

If you are on a Shared account, you may have to reach out to our Live Support team to help determine the IP address of the user that is creating the connections or to manually close them.
