how to configure microsoft 365 client for email

How do I configure Microsoft 365 client for email. The ports I am using for other MS products do not seem to be working.

Hello Gail,

Thanks for the question about configuring the Microsoft 365 client for email. Before you begin you should gather the following information:

Your user credentials for the email account you're going to use.  This is:

- email user name:  [email protected] (for example)
- pw for that email account

Determine if you're using POP3 or IMAP protocol.  IMAP is the version that allows you to have folders.  POP3 keeps all new emails in the INBOX. You can find all of the email settings that we use in this article:  How to find your Email Settings.

You can use this guide for Outlook 2016 or you can follow this list:

  1. Click on Tools and then Account Settings ....
  2. Click New... .
  3. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click on Next.
  4. Select Internet E-mail and click on Next.
  5. Enter your name and e-mail address at user information. ...
  6. Select the Outgoing Server tab. ...
  7. Select the Advanced tab. ...
  8. Click on Finish.
