Cloud VPS Hosting FAQs

What is Cloud VPS Hosting?

Cloud Servers are different from traditional hosting. With a Cloud Server, your website is not hosted on a single server, it is hosted across several different servers. Each server contains your website and the server(s) are connected via the internet. Learn more about the benefits of Cloud Server hosting.

How to buy a Cloud Server?

Discovering the right fit of a cloud server for your organizations requires time and research. Before you purchase, review the needs of your business obligations. For example, your business may have several security or government requirements. Several organizations have policies in place which do not allow monthly recurring charges for renting a machine. Once you have the proper breakdown of what you need out of your server, contact an InMotion Hosting sales rep via phone or chat and we can build a custom hosting plan specifically for your company.

What is an Ansible Control Node?

Ansible communicates directly with servers by sending them modules. These Ansible Modules are small programs written in Python and serve as the resource model for the desired state of the system. Once these modules have run, Ansible removes them.

What makes Ansible so simple to use is that modules are executed easily over SSH and can be managed with simple text files.

The InMotion Hosting UltraStack Playbook that we provide will be the entry point to your Automation.

Three simple steps will get you started:

  1. Log into your Control Node
  2. Manage your Ansible Inventory
  3. Run the UltraStack Playbook

What is the difference between Cloud VPS & Managed VPS?

There are many key differences to consider when choosing between a Cloud VPS and Managed VPS Hosting Plan.

  • Self-Managed Cloud VPS has cheaper options but does not have cPanel nor other graphical user interface (GUI) software.
  • Cloud Server Hosting plans range from $6-$224/monthly with multiple scaling options, so you only pay for the resources you need.
  • You can choose between four operating systems (OSs) – Alma, CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu – and re-OS your Cloud Server at any time. However, there’s no cPanel or other graphical user interface (GUI) for managing the server – just SSH.
  • Server OS updates, backups (excluding AMP snapshots), and other server management tasks are your responsibility.
  • Unmanaged cloud servers allow you to set up your desired stack from a blank canvas, with complete control over the operating system and web applications installed.
