changing wordpress temp url back to your domain name...
in the php file, i assume we do not use www.
just the http://domain-name.com?
we then change it to
define('WP_HOME','http://makweb.com);
define('WP_SITEURL','http://makweb.com);

is this the correct procedure?

Hello YogaMarieMills,

Thank you for your question today. If you are ready to use the domain name and have it already pointed to the proper nameservers, you simply need to remove the lines referencing the temp URL as they are not necessary when using the proper domain name. Be sure that your URL settings in the admin dashboard are correct before doing so, however.

The use of www or not is completely up to you, but as time goes on, the www is falling out of favor as people simply use the domain name itself.

Kindest Regards,
Scott M

thank you Scott. I can get my first page up on internet, and a friend of mine can too, but not the other posts- however, i have been waiting for help from support about the error message on my domain name transfer- it is all rather untimely, i am hoping this is part of the reason.

Hello YogaMarieMills,

I performed a whois lookup on your domain, and it is showing that it was modified yesterday (12/2/13). If you modified anything DNS related, such as your nameservers, keep in mind it can take up to 24 hours to propagate, or update across the world.

I checked your website, and everything is functioning, but the posts resolve to your Temp URL, which means your URL was not updated correctly.

Please follow our full walk through guide on "Changing the Site URL," as it shows you in steps how to make the switch.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

thank you for the help, however, you mention that i must be sure that the URL settings in the admin dashboard are correct before making the url changes ...i made the temp url changes in the php files... and from what I understand this will concurr with the admin dashboard...as i quote next from one of the boards "Changing WordPress back to use your domain name
When you are done setting up and testing the your website using the temporary URL you will want to edit the wp-config.php file again and remove the code you placed into the file. Open the wp-config.php file with the code editor and replace your temporary url with your actual domain name."
so can i do this, as i cannot change the URL settings on the admin dashboard as there is not an edit option?

Hello YogaMarieMills,

Setting the WP_HOME and WP_SITEURL settings in your wp-config.php file is typically just a temporary measure you want to use when testing out changing your WordPress URL settings.

If you look at that guide under the change WordPress address with wp-config.php file section, you should see this note:

Be aware with these settings in the wp-config.php file, the ability to modify them from the dashboard is lost.

So if you simply comment out the lines in your wp-config.php by placing two // slashes in front of them. You can then click on Settings >> General in your WordPress Dashboard and those settings should be "live" again:

//define('WP_HOME','http://makweb.com);
//define('WP_SITEURL','http://makweb.com);

If you're still having any issues at all please let us know. Also if you have any suggestions on what might make our guide more clear on the matter we love feedback!

Hello YogaMarieMills,

I checked the site and see that the main page is working with the domain name, but other links are still using the temp URL. To get the site to work correctly, you simply need to edit the wp-config.php file and remove the two lines that point to the temp URL. This will allow all links in the site to use the domain name in the same manner as the main page.
