Server Spikes?

I'm new to VPS. I just switched to inmotion hosting VPS from another company where I was on a shared hosting plan.

I'm running a couple of wordpress sites and over the past couple days, I've noticed some server spikes. Load averages usually are very low hardly going over 0.2 but then out of nowhere I see extremely high loads--up 18. This lasts for no more than a few minutes but was enough to bring the site down once. I know I don't have enough visitor traffic to cause spikes like this. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

Hello mmcguire,

There can be different things to cause a server spike. We have some great documentation to help you discover what may be going on with your server. Please check our Determining cause of server usage spike article for more information.
