How do I transfer email from a domain registrar?

Resolved Question
Hello,
I just decide to host my domain on here. I changed the nameservers at my registrer (namecheap). I had registered two email there, that are up and running. Tranferring the nameserver will clearly affect them so what do I have to do to keep them running on here.

This is what their support centre told me
"The domain name is using third party DNS, you will need to contact your DNS provider and have the following records setup in the domain name zone file for OX to work properly...and it gave me a string of commands.
I don't know how to use them

thanks

M.

Hi M,

I just signed up for web hosting, what should I do in regard to email to keep it up and running?

  1. The first thing you will want to do is make sure that the email addresses you had setup on your previous host are setup at InMotion Hosting. For more help with creating these email addresses, please see: Creating an email address

  2. After you have created an email address, the next thing you'll want to do is update your email clients (programs used to read / send email) with your new email settings.
Incoming and Outgoing server namesmail.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain)
Usernameuser@domain.com (this should be your full email address, all lower case
PasswordThe email password you setup in step 1. Forgot your password?

I checked your DNS (specifically your nameservers), and it appears you have successfully updated your nameservers to ours. This change can take up to 24 hours to FULLY take effect. After your nameserver change has fully gone through and you've followed the steps above, your email should be good to go!

You will need to contact your DNS provider and have the following records setup in the domain name zone file for OX to work properly

Not all email is setup the same for each domain, so I can't respond to this comment without knowing the specific details your previous host gave you. If you'd like to post a comment on this page with more details, I'd be happy to assist further.

Hi M.,

Thanks for getting back to us. The records they provided you are so the mail keeps coming through their servers. At this point, you need to decide whether you want the email to go through their servers or to be handled through your account with us.

It appears that you have changed the nameservers so all your email is being handled through your account with InMotion. As long as you updated your settings in your email client, you shouldn't have to do anything else.

If you want to have the emails routed through your previous provider I can provide you the steps to set up those records they have provided.

Feel free to let me know how you want to proceed, and I will provide you with the necessary steps if needed.

If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us.

Thanks!

Thank you Brad,

They said exactly this :
"The domain name is using third party DNS, you will need to contact your DNS provider and have the following records setup in the domain name zone file for OX to work properly: @ TXT "v=spf1 include:ox.registrar-servers.com ip4:64.22.89.133 ip4:64.22.89.134 -all" @ MX oxmail.registrar-servers.com 20 mail CNAME oxwebmail.registrar-servers.com"

Honestly I don't now what they are talking about. :-)

Do you think I just need to update the setup on their email control panel wth the detail you gave me or do I have to do something else?

Thank you
M.
