Hi, I have located the folder in the File Manager that contains social media icons (png files) on my site. I want to replace the existing icons with new ones. My question is: is it a simple matter of deleting the existing png files and uploading new ones for them to be replaced on the website? Or is there editing/coding required? Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for your question about updating social media icons. I looked at the site you provided privately, and you seem to be using WordPress.

This means you would have to Login to the Admin Dashboard, and make the change there.

When I viewed the source code for your site, you seem to be using the Social Linkz plugin for your social media buttons. Most likely you can modify the social media buttons within this plugin's settings.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.

Thank you,
John-Paul

Hi John-Paul,

Thanks for your reply. I do have the Social Linkz plugin on my site but you must have looked at some older pages where this is displayed. My question re changing the social media icons relates to those in the header bar on my site. The Social Linkz plugin was used to add social links in each individual post and is not what I am querying. I can not find anywhere from the WordPress Admin Dashboard where I can change the social media icons in the header. WordPress help told me that they can be changed via my web hosting File Manager. I did locate the folder in File Manager where the social media icons are stored but here is where I don't know how to proceed. Appreciate any assistance, thanks

Hello Nathan75,

Normally you can view the source of your page by right clicking or hitting ctl+U to see the paths and image names. This is normal methods for troubleshooting the output code of the site as well. However, it appears your site has code that prevents these assistance methods. Since we are unable to use these methods to give you the exact paths and names you will need to look through your folders individually to locate them.

Assuming the social media icons are part of your theme, you can start by looking in the wp-content folder and then the themes folder. There should be a folder for each theme you have installed on your site, active or not. The specific theme folder should have an Images folder. From there you will simply need to view the images until you find the ones for each social media icon. As they change when hovering, there may be more than one of each type.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your reply. I had already found the where the social media icons are stored. My question is: is it a simple matter of deleting the existing png files and uploading new ones for them to be replaced on the header bar of the website? Or is there editing/coding required? Thanks

Hello Nathan75,

You can simply replace the existing ones, however be sure to keep the same names to avoid any errors. As long as the filenames are exact, then you should not have to make any coding changes.
