These are great instructions for resetting your permalinks.
Does this process create the 301 redirect in htaccess for you so you don't have to do it manually?

Hello,

Thanks for your question regarding the permalinks and creating a 301 re-direct. The re-direct is based on a new URL location, so typically, a permalink is using the URL provided based on the WordPress current location to create a path to your posts in the WordPress database. So, the answer is "no", the changed permalink does not create the 301 redirect. To make it easier, look for "redirect" in the Plugins section and get a well rated (and up-to-date) plugin for creating 301 re-directs. This will make it much easier for you to manage them. The main difference that using the plugin will have on your paths is that a search engine looking at your paths will note the change in path. It will help to preserve your search engine standings and not downgrade them just because you changed the location of your WordPress site.

I hope that helps to answer your question! If you require further assistance, please let us know!
