I'm looking for guidance and recommendations on a membership directory for my wordpress web site.

Thank you for contacting about setting up a membership directory on your WordPress site. We'll be happy to look into your request. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by membership directory but you can try setting up the BuddyPress plugin. It's a free WordPress plugin that allow you create a community in your WordPress installation where members can join and participate in whatever fashion you decide.
