Constant slowness, outages and 500 errors

Hi,

I would love if someone could help me figure this out.

I have about 40 small Wordpress sites on the reseller plan. These are bottom tier websites, nobody wants to maintain them, they just want to keep them up and running at least at 98% uptime at a passable speed. Is that too much to ask?

Every time I contact support about the constant time-outs, outages and server errors, I hear 100 different stories. Whether is php memory limits (no), my network (no), or a web developer needs to optimize every single website, install and config total cache, optimize speed and look for "problems." News flash: if a client is using shared hosting in the first place, they probably don't have the budget for a full website audit. My questions are:

1) Is there any way to tell in WHM/cPanel which website(s) are abusing the most resources and why?

2)Is there any cheap and quick way to prevent a site from having weird memory spikes?

3) How do I check in WHM if the server is running ok? For example, what are good load averages?

4) How can I do a safe "reset" when things time-out?

Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks,

Anna

Ana,
We share your experience. We have daily outages that take out all of our sites. They seemingly go unnoticed unless we report them, and are fixed within 5 minutes of starting a chat session. It has been a customer service nightmare. The tests we put on the sites do not always detect an issue because only a piece of the web server is malfunctioning. It's been a huge disappointment for us. There is no solution in sight, although InMotion is offering to move us to another server. I have yet to understand what difference that will make and how they plan to do it. I am willing to do a VPS but my experience with their VPS was equally poor in the past for other reasons. I want to offload as much responsibility for the account as I can, I don't need to be administering web servers.

Hello Anna, I'm sorry to hear that your having trouble with your sites' availability. We have a list of common issues to check your sites for in our Support center. This article will also advise you on how to help address these common issues. As to monitoring server load, this will vary by server, and what is causing the load. As you mentioned your account is on a reseller plan, your ability to directly affect the overall server load will be limited. Additionally, this means that there isn't anything that you need to do to 'reset' anything. Finally, if the server housing your account is having prolonged issues you may find more information on our status page. Gratefully, Casey B.
