ODU Development Internship Experience

Hi, I’m Rafael and I’m a development intern here at InMotion Hosting, and a Computer Engineering Junior at Old Dominion University. I have been working here for a little less than two months, but so far it has been an incredible experience. Everyone is very helpful and pleasant to work with. The work environment is also very welcoming. The casual dress code allows me to come to work without the need to bring a change in attire. Also, my work schedule was easily adjusted to coincide with my rigorous school schedule. I’ve never worked anywhere this accommodating.

Since I have started working here I feel that the skills that I was lacking have developed quickly, and as a result I am performing much better in school. Over the past two months I have learned more about my chosen profession than I have learned since beginning my collegiate studies. The benefit of hands on learning can be underestimated; however, it has proven to be indispensable.

The majority of my background in regards to software development has come from some introductory programming classes in C++. Since I began working here I have become very familiar with PHP, MySQL, jQuery, CSS, HTML and JavaScript. However, the most important information that I have learned so far concerns the software development process; something that’s difficult to understand without seeing it unfold first hand.

My experience here at InMotion Hosting has been my best work experience yet! I am only half way through it but I look forward to my future here and the opportunities it may hold.

Marketing Goes to the Data Center

The LA Marketing team and a few other associates in the LA office recently took a field trip to explore the west coast data center in downtown LA. The data center recently tripled in size to accommodate our growing customer base. The team got to explore the new network engineering center where the systems group monitors our network and servers.

A big thanks goes out to our West Coast Systems Supervisor, William M. for showing the team around the network hub.
