Buying a URL that is expiring

So you know what my main url is, I just recently found out that the url without a dash is going to expire on 5/16. Is there a way to get in line to buy it as soon as it becomes available (if it does)?

The current owner reached out to me and asked for 5 figures for a site they haven't used for 10 years. I laughed but wondered why they were contacting me. Looks like it's expiring on 5/16 but it is currently owned by a group that makes a lot of money annually buying and selling urls (SiteHQ) so I don't know if they will automatically buy it again...but if they don't I'd love to snag it as quickly as possible, even though all I would do with it is 301 redirect it to the url I own now and have built for the last 4 years.

Hello RichardM, Thank you for your question buying a URL that is expiring. At this time we do not have any tools for purchasing a domain as soon as it becomes available. Some registrars used to offer a service like that, but I was unable to locate one at this time. Keep in mind that when a domain expires, it goes through a redemption period, sometimes up to 30 days before it is released. This is to allow the owner time to recover it if it expired by accident. It also makes it difficult to know when it will be released. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, -John-Paul
