I set Joomla email settings per this article
https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/email/send-email-from-a-page/why-wont-my-php-app-send-mail

The article says localhost is usable I could not get that to work. If I use ssl I have to use the Inmotion server name, non-ssl works with mail.myservername.com

Here is the problem .
Joomla send me the email fine but if I check send a copy to yourself box and the sender is an off site address I get the following error

SMTP Error! The following recipients failed: [email protected]

SMTP server error: Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client. 550-bizXXXX.inmotionhosting.com (www.mydomain.org) [XXXX.XXX.XXX.XXX]:39996 is 550 not permitted to relay through this server without authentication.

Again authentication is set to yes in Joomla's email settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello frrobert, Thank you for your question. When authentication fails, it means the username or password is incorrect. I recommend confirming you have created the email address successfully, then checking that you are using the full email address as the username, and the password is correct. Email passwords can also be reset in cPanel, if you do not know it. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, -John-Paul
