Has Anyone Noticed a Liberal Bias in Spam Assassin?

I notice fairly frequently that emails from Conservative sites, which do not contain anything that objectively should trigger a ***SPAM*** trigger are identified as SPAM by Spam Assassin. This happens even to email from sites I add to the WHITE LIST. I do not recall ever seeing email from supporters of Hilary Clinton or Bernie Sanders marked as SPAM. Of course, if you are of a liberal bent, this would meet your desires, but I do wonder at the programmers who run Spam Assassin. Should there not be a policy of neutrality in this kind of thing? I really doubt that every user of inmotionhosting identifies as a liberal.

Hello whodunit, Thank you for your question on Spam Assassin configuration. The Spam Assassin tool does not look for specific content in sentence or paragraph form, but for certain words and their frequency. Each time a word from their 'spam dictionary' is found, it adds to the total spam score of the email. Incoming emails that have a score higher than your tolerance setting will be flagged as spam. I cannot speak on the issue of emails getting flagged that are on the whitelist as we would need to test specific examples. You are free to disable the Spam Assassin as it is able to be toggled on an account level, so if it seems to be more problematic than helpful, that may be your best option. From there you can use Account and User level filtering, which can be tailored to be more specific to your needs over time. Kindest Regards, Scott M
