Spark Los Angeles- Sugar Rush 2012

Tell Your Friends!

On Saturday, March 17, InMotion Hosting was proud to partner with Spark, a non-profit organization that provides life changing apprenticeships for disadvantaged youth, for their annual fundraising gala, Sugar Rush. The fundraiser, with over 200 in attendance, was a dessert tasting with silent and live auctions.

InMotion Hosting was a reception sponsor. We were also in a unique situation because not only were we sponsors for this event, but we were also apprenticeship teachers  this past Fall in Los Angeles. We were able to assist our mentee, Brian, in building a website for his father’s business (otiliolandscaping.com).

This year Sugar Rush helped raise $50,000 to fund apprenticeships in Los Angeles! Please learn more about Spark by visiting their website (sparkprogram.org) to see if they provide apprenticeships in your city.

Web Design Intern Experience

Tell Your Friends!

InMotion Hosting has had the privilege to partner with Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach, VA to provide a meaningful real-world experience to a high school student named Heidi. As Heidi’s internship comes to a close we asked her to share her experience on our blog. Here is what she had to say.

As an eighteen year old, I never thought I would get involved with such an important and influential company such as InMotion Hosting. However, by taking on the challenge of interning for my senior project for Tallwood’s academy, I was able to see firsthand all the work that goes behind keeping a website.

Most people tend to think websites are just there, that designers just slap web pages on the Internet and call it a day; however, that is not the case at all. I’ll admit that before I started interning with InMotion Hosting, I was a bit naïve; I had prior knowledge to web design and servers, but never the whole works. My first week at InMotion, taught me that it takes a lot of people to keep a website hosting company afloat. You’ve got the Sales team who initiate the sales of hosting on the servers, or making a website, etc. You’ve also got the Support Technicians who help customers with troubleshooting, then the D1 & D2 designers, who I spent a lot of time with.

Considering I had prior experience in Dreamweaver and Photoshop (through my ATC class) I was presented with the D1 test and passed, allowing me to focus on tickets with the D1 designers. That’s the greatest experience ever, I feel. D1 designers fix front-end errors for clients and I feel that suits me perfectly. Not only have I learned so much more about working in Dreamweaver and Photoshop, but I’ve also met some of the coolest people at InMotion.

I come in everyday for two and a half hours for my internship and it’s honestly the main thing I look forward to in my day, because I know I’m going to learn something new. On top of that, I like the feeling of more responsibility and actually helping the business, even if it’s in a very small way. It’s an exciting experience and one that will follow me for the rest of my life.

Daylight Savings Time 2012

Tell Your Friends!

Don’t forget to spring forward!

We would like to remind you that on Sunday, March 11th at 2am clocks will spring forward to 3am as daylight savings time takes affect.

Our suggestion is to move your clocks, especially your alarm clocks ahead 1 hour when you go to bed on Saturday night. This way you don’t have to remember to get up at 2am to do it.
