I was originally on a Wordpress.com site. I received email notices when someone completed my contact box AND when they made comments and when I replied the commentor received my reply via email also. I then got web hosting and quit gettings any email notices. I noticed it was going to an "[email protected]" This was not an email I set up and do not recall being prompted to input any email addresses during the WP installation process. I did add my email address under Settings - General AND have the options under Settings - Discussion set as E-mail me whenever "Anyone posts a comment" and 'A comment is held for moderation". When I reply to a comment in now shows my correct email address but now I am still not receiving any email notices of comments to my blog. Any help to fix this issue greatly appreciated. I would like to know how the invalid email address of "[email protected]" ever came from. I could never find where this email came about and was not listed anywhere in all the WP settings I went through in the dashboard. General InMotionHosting Technical Support was unable to help me.

Hello CCHeartCindy,

As long as the emails are being sent from the server, it does not matter where they are going ultimately. The support team will simply be looking to make sure the server is sending them out.

Self-hosted WordPress and WordPress.com, while the same software at its core, can be quite different.

Are you using JetPack comments or the standard comments? Are there any other plugins installed?
