The org that created our website has informed us it is shutting down its servers on Jan.1, 2020. It so happens that inmotion is the host for the website. I've been instructed to start a new account and ticket. How do I begin?

Good morning, Ronnie. This is the email exchange between my project leader, myself and the company that is migrating Paula's account to your company. Do I understand that you need the last four digits of Paula's credit card number to complete any transferal of admin privileges?

Yes, but the verification would be to move the data to your own hosting plan.

If you wish to move your website to another hosting provider (e.g. GoDaddy, HostGator):

  1. Contact Live Support with verification
  2. Request a cPanel backup of the website

If you wish to keep your hosting with us, you'd be following our guide to move a client's existing cPanel child account to their own server.

  1. Purchase a hosting plan. I recommend starting with our Launch Shared Hosting and upgrading as needed
  2. Contact Live Support with verification
  3. Request to transfer the website from the current account to your new account
  4. Save the emails regarding the migration ticket for your records and to track updates
  5. Ask our Live Support for advice on security and backup plugins and email authentication

Thanks for getting in touch with us! Sorry to hear that you have been put in this situation, but hopefully I can provide you with some information that can smooth out the process.

The first thing to keep in mind is that our support staff can only interact with the current site on behalf of the account owner or someone with verified account access. Verification normally means the last four digits of the credit card on file, the password of the account holder, or something equivalent.

Here, that would mean the information related to the organization hosting your site, not your site itself. In circumstances like this, you should reach out to that organization hosting your site. They may be able to provide you with full verification. Alternatively, that organization can contact us after you set up a hosting account and authorize the release of your site to that account.

When that happens, it's best if whoever calls, chats, or emails us to does so on behalf of both accounts. If you do that, then the process is an internal migration which is much faster and smoother. This article will give an idea of what the process is like, though it is from the perspective of the current, soon to be expiring, account holder.

Now, it may happen that you are unable to sort everything out in time. If that is the case, you will have to treat the situation like you are moving the site from an external host and are restoring from backups. The organization previously in charge of your hosting should be able to provide you with either a full cPanel backup, or the database and site files of your website. You can upload those to your new hosting account and put in a request to restore the site from those backups. Be sure to keep an extra copy elsewhere though, you can never be too careful when site backups are involved.

I know that's a lot at once, but I hope it helps!
